Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarships

St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) is eagerly awaiting applications from excellent students for its PhD Position in Making Membranes for Synthetic Cells in Netherlands.

Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: Open to both Canadian and international students.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship is available to students enrolled in a thesis-based graduate program at StFX in research areas related to Nova Scotia’s priority sectors, including:

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be enrolled full-time in a thesis-based graduate program at StFX.
  • Have achieved first-class standing in their most recent academic studies.
  • Conduct research aligned with Nova Scotia’s priority sectors.
  • Be within their normal time to completion in September of the next academic year.
  • Not have previously received an NSGS award for more than 2 years (Master’s) or 4 years (PhD).

For renewal of the scholarship, recipients must:

  • Maintain good academic standing as per the StFX Academic Calendar.
  • Remain enrolled full-time as defined in the StFX Academic Calendar.
  • Submit an annual progress report and renewal application (by February 15).
  • Demonstrate how their research contributes to Nova Scotia’s economic and social well-being.
  • Receive approval from the Committee on Graduate Studies based on research progress.

Application Process

  • Consult with your Faculty Supervisor and Departmental Graduate Studies Coordinator.
  • Complete the StFX Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarships application form.
  • Submit the application online via the ROMEO researcher portal to the Office of the Associate Vice President, Research, Graduate and Professional Studies by February 15.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

All applications will be reviewed and ranked by the Graduate Studies Committee or a delegated review committee, based on:

  1. Merit of the research proposal.
  2. Excellence of the student.
  3. Alignment with Nova Scotia’s priority sectors.
  4. Impact on the economic and/or social well-being of Nova Scotians.

Final decisions will be made in March each year.
